Kayak Tours FAQ's

Can everyone come on this tour?
A minimum requirement for our water activities – Auckland Kayak Fishing Tours and Kayak Tours - is that each participant must be able to swim and be at least 14 years old.
Can I do a half day?
Yes. However, we do recommend a full day, which will allow you to see a lot more.
Do I need kayaking experience to enjoy your Auckland Kayak Tour?
No. We can teach you everything you need to know for kayaking while on our Auckland Kayak Tour. A lot of our clients have never paddled before and we can easily teach you the basics you need to enjoy yourselves. Your guide will give you initial instruction plus ongoing paddle tips while on the water. Remember a Kayak Tour with us is both easy and fun. That said, we can also cater for those that enjoy a real challenge; please let us know what your experience is when booking with us, so we can ensure you have “the TIME of your life!” while on our Auckland Kayak Tour.
For kayaking - do I need to be able to swim?
You must be able to swim to take our various Auckland Kayak Tours. This is important in the unlikely event of you falling in.
How long are your Auckland Kayak Tours?
Our Half Day Tours are 4 hours (10:00 to 14:00 or 14:00 to 18:00);
Our Full Day Tours are 8 hours (10:00 to 18:00);
Our Overnight Tours are 2 full days.

How long are your Kayak Tours?
This depends on whether you have booked a Half Day, Full day or Overnight Auckland Kayak Tour with us. Actual on the water time varies between each tour between about 2 ½ hours for a half day and 4-6 hours for a full day, including breaks relaxing on the beach such as having a great lunch on full day tours as you need them. You’ll be surprised to see just how quickly time flies on our tours while you’re having fun! It’s not all about Kayaking, since we ensure you have enough time for lunch and taking photos of the amazing coastline and beaches we kayak along.
Isn’t it too cold?
No. Auckland has a wonderful climate and you will be warm in most weather conditions anyway. Even in winter we provide you with specialist kayaking gear to ensure you’re nice and cosy. In fact we guarantee that you’ll be glad you came outside instead of staying inside with those that thought they were going to be cold out on the water!
What do we provide for our Kayak Tours?
We provide everything for your tour incl all transport from and to your accommodation in Auckland city, lunch (full & overnight tours), snacks, hot/cold drinks. What gear do I need?
For all our tours please bring clothes suitable for the weather conditions on the day. We recommend in addition
  • Spare clothes to change into in case you get wet (especially for Kayaking & Kayak Fishing)
  • A sunhat (or warm hat in winter), sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Your camera with LOTS of battery and memory space!
  • Swimming gear (for Kayaking, Kayak Fishing & Kite Fishing but also possible for other tours)
  • For Overnight/Multi-Day Tours, bring a sleeping bag and outdoor mattress. We can supply you with a mattress if required.
  • A smile!

Please let us know if you need anything; we are always happy to help.

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?
Our Auckland Kayak Tours are weather dependent and we do watch out for suitable weather to go ahead with our Kayak Tours. If for any reason we deem the weather to be unsuitable (a bit of rain is not such a reason), then we may cancel a tour and give you the choice between a full refund and postponement of a tour to another day.
What is the minimum age for kayaking?

What is the minimum age for kayaking?
14 years.
What is your guide to client ratio?
Our guide to client ratio is max 1 to 6 (one guide for 6 clients) for most of our tours. This is to keep it all really personal and also for safety reasons.
Where do we go?
Auckland Kayak Tours: For full day tours and overnight tours we visit the same places as for our Kayak Fishing Tours. For our half day Kayaking Adventures we launch from one of the lovely Waitemata Harbour sand beaches closer to the city, so we have more time on the water.
Will I fall out / do the kayaks capsize easily?
No. We use very stable and high-quality sit-on kayaks. Should you fall in, you will NOT be potentially trapped underwater unable to get out, as you could be in classical sea kayaks with spray-deck etc. Instead, you would just fall off and we can get you back in very easily.
Will I get wet?
You may get wet if it rains or in the unlikely event of you falling in, which happens very rarely. If you do fall in unexpectedly, then we are prepared and your guide will ensure you stay warm. We do provide paddle jackets and paddle pants for your comfort if required.
